Ford Motors produced the Fiesta sedan long back in 1976 and the car has now reached its seventh generation. Fiesta was first introduced in India almost a decade ago in the year 2005. It was the fifth generation model and it enjoyed decent sales then. The sixth generation came around in July 2011 with new looks and features at a lower price. The company then again revamped the Fiesta and the latest model was unveiled at the Indian Auto Expo 2014.
This new Ford Fiesta is the first car from Ford to adhere completely to the Kinetic Design philosophy and it definitely looks smarter than its predecessor. The thin trapezoidal front grille with chrome slats, the pulled back headlights, huge air drum and the bonnet with prominent lines give a sporty look to the car. The rear has a chrome lined tweaked bumper and larger tail lights. The ORVMS with turn indicators and puddle lamps activate automatically when the car is unlocked. The strong steel structure beneath the car’s stylish exterior enhances durability and safety.
This new Fiesta will feel comfortable for four full sized adults, or maybe five! The new black and beige colour dashboard and the glossy black plastic on the centre console in contrast to the light grey fabric seats makes the interiors alluring. The Fiesta is high on the features list like the SYNC unit plus Ford’s Applink System that helps to control mobile applications via voice commands and an Emergency assist function in case of accidents. These features are seen only in the top-line variants. Safety features like ABS, EBD and airbags are now provided as a standard feature across all variants. But again Ford has missed out certain standard features seen nowadays like a rear view camera, leather upholstery and a sunroof.
Ford has stopped the Fiesta with petrol engines. It now offers Fiesta only with the 1.5 litre diesel engine producing 90 bhp of maximum power and 204 NM of maximum torque. It is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The mileage has improved to 25.01 kmpl. The new Fiesta offers excellent ride and handling. Fiesta is a very much enjoyable to drive car with its super driving dynamics. The 2014 Ford Fiesta will be offered only in Ambiente, Trend and Titanium trims. The one downside felt here is the absence of an automatic version.
Ford Fiesta was once the most expensive car in its segment and now it is the cheapest car in the C2 segment. There are 8 variants of this car available in the market whose prices range from Rs. 8.23 lakhs to Rs. 10.42 lakhs. Honda City, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna are some of its worthy contenders in the car market currently.
